Instructional Goals
  • Learning to play a wide variety of fun, challenging music literature.
  • Understanding and sight-reading music notation.
  • Learning to play increasingly complex musicianship skills (scales, chords, cadences, etc.) to provide a foundation for ear training and improvisation.
  • Playing with a proper, tension-free technic.
  • Playing with expressive musicality appropriate to the musical style of the piece.
  • Understanding and appreciating music history as it relates to achieving an artistic performance.
Sessions
  • Each school year is divided into terms, 6 terms per year.
  • New students are welcome to begin at any time during a term.
  • Each term generally includes 7 weeks of lessons, 1 lesson per week.
  • Beginners start with one 30 minute lesson per week.
  • Lesson time lengths for older, more advanced students are determined by student age, skill level, and motivation.
  • Tuition payment for each term is due on the Friday prior to the start of a new term. (See schedule for term dates)
  • Tuition payments are non-refundable.
Attendance Policy
  • Weekly attendance is expected.
  • Students are expected to come prepared for their lesson with all assigned materials, clean hands, and trimmed finger nails.
  • Arrive promptly at the scheduled lesson time.
  • Four make-up lessons are allowed each school year.
  • Parents are welcome to observe each lesson.
Practicing
  • Students must have a piano (preferred) or full-sized keyboard (88 keys with pedal) in their home in good working condition.
  • Students are expected to follow all practice tips and assignments to the best of their ability.
  • The more efficient and consistent a student is in their practicing, the more skilled and enjoyable their playing will become. 'Nuff said!
Performing
  • Several performing opportunities are available for those who wish to participate including:
    • Studio recitals
    • Studio classes
    • Master classes
    • Adjudicated events
  • No student will be forced to perform in public.
